  This is a valuable book written by Nandasena Ratnapala, a Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. His books include "Poetry, Novels, Sociology and Anthropology, Folklore and Criminology". "The Beggar in Sri Lanka" is one of my favorite book. It is a work of Sociology and Anthropology, as well as a literary treatise. This book has come to the readers as a result of the long research done by Prof. Nandasena Ratnapala. He also lives with beggars to gather information for this book. It has provided him with information on various types of beggars, beggars' lifestyles, begging families, beggars' various problems and begging practices. In my view, this book is a very valuable work for students studying Sociology and Anthropology. Beggars are just another group of people living in society. So this book was very useful for me to know the information about the life they lead.

November 4th is my dad's birthday. As usual we all greeted daddy in the morning.  Mom made milk rice for breakfast that day. In the morning we worshiped the Buddha and we all ate milk rice. We talked about doing something special in the evening because of dad's birthday. We decided to make a special dinner. For that we invited our aunty and uncle. We brought groceries from the shop.  We brought a cake because we wanted to surprise dad. That day we thought of making kottu, cutlets, sandwich and potato chips as our dinner. I made cutlets.  Mom and sisters cooked other meal together. Unknowingly dinner approached. Our  aunty and uncle were also there at the time. We cut the cake before eating.  Dad was surprised to see the cake.  Dad ate cake for everyone who came. Then we had dinner.  Everyone enjoyed it so much. Then we sang. We decided to go to bed because it was too late. Aunty and uncle stayed at our house that day. So we had a great day.

Moon Plains is another beautiful place on a trip to Nuwara Eliya with family before the Corona Pandemic. We have not all been to the Moon Plains before. So it was a new experience. There is a safari service to see the Moon Plains. We decided to go in two safari jeeps as there were about twelve people participating in the trip. That was a lot of fun for us too.  Because our two jeeps were moving like a race. Moon Plains is the best place to have a panoramic view of mountains in Sri Lanka. The main attraction of the Moon Plains was the "Mini Worldsend" at the edge giving a 360 Degree view of the surrounding peaks and towns. It is a wide open area with the chances of seeing wild boars, cows, buffaloes and deers. At the viewpoint, we could able to see the peak point of nine mountains in Sri Lanka. In the year 2019, the art class organized a two day workshop. Yatagampitiya College, a beautiful school close to Pahiyangala was selected for this purpose. There were many students in our art class studying from grade one to university entrance. Everyone, including the art teacher, attended the workshop. Since it was two days, there were also several parents to assist. We went to that place that morning and when we looked from that school it was a beautiful view surrounded by the Pahiyangala Cave and the surrounding mountains. Our workshop consisted of a number of different activities. These included physical activities, curricular activities, and amusing activities. Anthurium can be used for home decoration as well as for extra income.  Anthurium is one of the most widely used flowers for export today. My mother grows flowers as a hobby.  Flowering plants as well as non-flowering plants are among them.  Among the flowering plants, Anthurium is the most popular.  At present there are several varieties of Anthuriums in her cultivation.  These include "Local Anthuriums and Bangkok Anthuriums". Local Anthuriums include Butterfly, By Color, Monika, Pick Me and Devli. Bangkok flowers include Anthadesiya brown, Princess Amalia, Jolly, Nano Red, Black Love, Black Cardinal, Ivory, Red Champion, Pink Champion and Ladygene. She is currently cultivating Anthuriums very well using fertilizers and fungicides.  Due to her busy schedule, she has been able to recover mentally from Anthurium cultivation. In addition, her Anthurium cultivation has become a source of additional monthly income.

This was created for an assignment in a Multi Disciplinary Department. It was created with the intention of giving a new lease of life to the declining Sri Lankan art industry. It is best suited for young women. The main medium here is Bamboo. The pendant and ring are made of Bamboo Medium. In addition, beads made of discarded wood are used. Dyed Twine was used to build the necklace. Slightly striking colors are used to enhance the beauty of the necklace, with dark orange, black and light brown being the main ones. This will provide high value and good demand as well as supply to the local and foreign markets. This necklace can also be marketed as a design with a focus on naturalness.

Thisari, Senuri, Chamidu, Mohan, my sisters and I are a group of friends. We have a brotherhood that goes beyond friendship. So one day we decided to go for a swim in the stream around the house.  It's called "Ali Dola".  We went to the place on foot. Thissari's mother was also present for our protection. By the end of the rainy season, the water of the stream was very clean and the whole stream was full of water.  So we went for a swim that day very impatiently.  It has a large rocky plateau. First we took photos with that beautiful view. Then we started having fun and bathing. It took four or five hours. Gradually the hunger increased. Then I remembered home-cooked Cassava and Chilli Paste. It was a very clear day. So the sun was shining well on the rock. We were so hungry. We ate Cassava in wet clothes. It was a rainy day.  The day went by lazily.  Unknowingly it was evening. Tea time was approaching. My sister is the one who always eats and drinks in our house. She made a suggestion to mother. The suggestion was to make "Roti" for tea. We all liked that proposal. Mom made "Roti" and "chili paste". As soon as the "Roti" was finished, the current went out. I made a ginger blend of tea that goes well with "Roti". We ate "Roti" and drank tea in the dark. It was a weird experience.  After that  we started singing.  While singing, our father shouted. We were all scared at the sound and we shouted too. Then Dad started laughing. That's when we learned that Dad had yelled at us to lie. Time passed in the dark. We ate "Roti" and did not eat dinner because our stomachs were full. The current did not come. Then we all decided to go to bed.

It was 23rd of May 2020. I woke up that morning very refreshed. Because I had to go for a television programme with my art teacher, Mr.Mangala Priyantha Perera. Only five students from the entire art class were selected to participate. I was able to be one of them. It was not a live programme. So our recording was from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.  We went to that place at 8.00 o' clock in the morning. We had our breakfast on the National Television premises. After the breakfast, we went to the makeup room. Then we had to go to the recording studio. On the way to that studio, we met some of the announcers we see on TV. Then we went to our recording studio. I was surprised. Because it was a bigger studio than we see on TV. When we went to the studio it was getting ready for the programme.     Leisure time is an essential thing for us.  People spend their leisure time in a variety of ways. So I am going to describe about, how I spend my leisure time. I do there are many works in my leisure time. Some of them are chatting with friends, cooking, sleeping, surfing internet, listening to the music and gardening.    I think, chatting with friends is my most common leisure time activity. Usually I use whatsapp as the platform. We chat lot of things and enjoy very well. My other favourite one is watching their status and comment them.    In the "Corona Pandemic" situation, I always try to prepare different types of foods. I mean spicy range and sweet range. For a example last week I prepared donuts and I used sprinkles to decorate them. I had tried caramel pudding, Chinese rolls, some salads and etc...     Sleeping is my other leisure time activity.    We all are know there are lot of art competitions have us to participate in our school time. One of them is "All Island Art Competition". I participated for this competition every year. The year of 2018 is very important year among them. Because I won " All Island First Place" in 2018. It was one of turning point in my life.    I participated in this competition under the design category. It was held at "The Ministry Of Education, Isurupaya". I had never gone before that place . There was a little fear in my heart. About five hundred  students in my age were there. I went to the competition with my mother.    Competition was started at 9.00 a.m to 4.00 p.m. I had only 7 hours for my creation. My creation was "Repeat Design". I used c orporate colors for my design. In the end it became a very beautiful design.    My village is Karandana. There was a "Karanda Forest" in the past. After the name "Karanda Vana", became "Karandana". It is located in Rathnapura District in the Sabaragamuwa Province. It is approximately 12km s away from Rathnapura.    My village is famous for gems, rubber, tea, paddy cultivation and vegetable cultivation. So there are gem mines, beautiful tea estates, rubber estates, paddy fields and vegetable plantations in my village. Many of our villagers are engaged in these industries.    There are also beautiful mountain ranges , streams and pure water that enhance the beauty of the village.  "Kalatuwawa Reservoir" is one of them. I went to see it with friends every school vacation. "Kalu River" is falling, right side of the village.    Karandna Primary School and Sri Jinarathana Maha Vidyalaya are the two main schools in my village. In addition, the temple, sub post office, shops and bakery are the main places in my village....

     This is my favourite carving I have ever made. For that I used Rigiform. It was a new experience for me. I was able to make a suitable design for the carving and my mother brought me the tools needed to do the carving. In fact, it was created for art class exhibition.    The first step of the carving was, i traced my design on the regiform sheet. After that, I carved the design step by step. It took me about five days.  Next I used sandpaper to finish it further. The final step was coloring. Choosing a color for it was a challenge for me. Finally I used "Coffee Brown" for that. To beautify my design, I used "Copper Dust and Gold Dust". And then I was amazed, because it was a beautiful creation that I did not expect.    Everyone appreciated me. I was very happy then. I still protect that my creation.
